Traffic safety is important for everyone, but especially children. After hearing some tragic stories, and thinking about all the dangerous things we see happen everyday, SS4BC took an interest in making our community a safer place with different initiatives in the past 3 years.
Advocating for Our Community
SS4BC had the honour of welcoming city councilman Mr. Park Min-hyeop to our school for an important discussion about traffic safety. Students presented their concerns about dangerous intersections and shared ideas for making the community safer for pedestrians. Mr. Park was highly impressed with the passion and thoughtfulness of our initiatives, and he pledged to install improved signage at key locations while continuing to work with SS4BC on future projects. The visit showed our students that their voices matter and that small steps can truly lead to meaningful change in the community.
Data Collection and Surveying Community Stakeholders
SS4BC students took to the streets of our community to survey residents about traffic safety concerns and to collect data on intersections that may pose risks for pedestrians. Through conversations and careful observation, we identified areas where improvements are needed and built a stronger understanding of how everyday experiences shape safety in our neighbourhood. The project not only gave us valuable information to share with local leaders but also reminded us how listening to our community is a vital step toward meaningful change.
Street Side Activism - Traffic Safety Awareness Walk
SS4BC took to the streets in June 2023 to remind and encourage drivers to follow traffic laws regarding stopping at red lights when turning right, not driving on sidewalks, and respecting pedestrians right to cross safely. The community support we received while showing our passion for this issue was overwhelming and we saw a significant change in save driving habits when our signs were up!
Full Stop - Music Video
SS4BC's second single - Full Stop was released in June 2023. The rap video features the class of 2022-2023 and some old friends from SS4BC 2021-2022 back to spit some verses. The song brings together 9 different language and shows the diversity of the CMIS community while promoting an important message about traffic safety.

Time to Go
Go, Stop: Follow the rules, or don't play.
CMIS Spring Fair - Full Stop: Traffic Safety Experience
During the CMIS Spring Fair, SS4BC created the Full Stop Traffic Safety Experience to help our younger students learn about traffic rules and practice "driving" on our scooterboard course. Every student left with a new license reminding the adults they love to be careful and follow the rules of the road.
Community Partnership - Child Safety Committee NGO
With some of money from spring fair raffle tickets, SS4BC made a donation to the Child Safety Committee NGO - a local organization that has national reach affecting policy on traffic safety with a specific focus on children. We were visited by their founder Lee Jae-bok who talked to the students about the importance of taking action and their ability to change the world.
